Megan Sapp, PMHNP, CNM, FNP

With two decades of healthcare experience, my focus is on helping people through life transitions. I practiced as Nurse Midwife/Family NP for fifteen years prior to completing an additional graduate program as a Psychiatric Mental-Health Nurse Practitioner.

My career as a midwife allows me to help people access strength and resilience through some of life’s most challenging moments. As a Family Nurse Practitioner, I appreciate the balance that exists between our physical health and our mental well-being.

My experience spans both coasts and includes:

  • serving as faculty at a school of medicine
  • working in a freestanding birth center
  • caring for pregnant people living with HIV
  • inpatient care of individuals with severe and persistent mental illness

I draw on these experiences to build a trusting partnership with patients through transparency, humor, and sharing knowledge that honors the complexity of each individual.

My Philosophy

Through patient education and shared decision-making, I aim to build a treatment plan that is consistent with your goals and values. I utilize evidence-based practice to guide my discussion of treatment options. While medication is one of the treatment options that I offer for management of symptoms, I believe that it is only one of the available tools, as behavioral changes, mindfulness, and lifestyle support are vitally important for sustainable well-being.

What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of work?

You’ll find me running on the roads and trails, baking up a storm, sewing quilts, and tooling around the PNW with the dogs in our VW camper.

What personal experiences or beliefs most influence your approach to psychiatric care and how you connect with clients?

I’ve spent most of my career caring for underserved populations, such as refugees, incarcerated populations, pregnant teens, and people living with HIV. I am consistently humbled by the strength and resilience of humans. We are all so similar yet so complex. Our lives are marked by both joy and suffering, so I believe in approaching every interaction with kindness, transparency, support, and respect.

What is your favorite method for managing your own mental health and well-being?

Running. I signed up for a 5k in my late 20s and never looked back. Even when the weather isn’t ideal, I seldom regret going out for a run, and my head always feels clearer. Running allows me to explore new places, set goals, find joy in the process, and feel like I’m a small part of a much bigger world. With racing, there are successes and disappointments, which has helped me to accept that progress isn’t linear and that we aren’t defined by the outcome.
